| The IAGSDC in 2009/10 |
The past year has seen some more changes in the way the IAGSDC operates. We have substantially reduced the amount of paper that we use for your business. The newsletter now goes to 1600 email addresses cutting down on printing and postage costs. There are still 1000 copies that go by mail and hopefully that will decrease as time goes by. All delegate information is sent by email as well. There are other options for reducing the need for paper and postage that we will be looking at as time goes on. I have undertaken to put together a group of people who are working to find ways to recruit new dancers and once recruited to keep them dancing I thank those people who volunteered their time and wish them well in this most important endeavor. We did not lose any clubs this year and gained one. The new club, Temple Squares in Salt Lake City was granted full membership. The Ottawa Date Squares has become an associate member We look forward to welcoming them back to full member status soon. There was interest form a Square dance group in Redwood California and they expect to apply for membership next year. In addition, a Cincinnati country western group is interested in applying for Affiliate status next year. We feel that it is important to be involved with as many groups as possible to increase our visibility and find new dancers. With that in mind I have undertaken to put together a group of people who are working to find ways to recruit new dancers and once recruited to keep them dancing I thank those people who volunteered their time and wish them well in this most important endeavor. There are now; 51 Full member clubs 4 associate member clubs 8 Affiliate organizations This year we attended the 26th Annual IAGSDC convention which was held at the Wardman Park Hotel in Washington DC and hosted by the DC Lambda Squares. It was a wonderful event full of all the activities that we come to expect every year and a few new surprises thrown in. This being the recession year attendance was down but there were still 890 registered attendees. We elected ( or reelected ) three board members for the IAGSDC this year: Michael Spayd elected as Secretary. Keith Gehrig reelected as Vice Chair. Phil Davis reelected as Club Liaison officer. Scott Philips retired after 10 years as a board member of the IAGSDC and we would like to thank him for his service. We confirmed that we will be going back to San Francisco in 2013 for the 30th annual convention. Salt Lake City Utah (yes Utah) has expressed an interest in hosting the 31st annual convention in 2014. Confirmed sites for future conventions: 2010 Chicago 2011 Atlanta 2102 Vancouver Canada 2013 San Francisco Our thanks to the following who continue to work within the organization: Karl Jaekel for his archivist work on our behalf Allan Hurst for his undertaking of the history projects Danny Lee. Web master extraordinaire Seth Levine for his work with convention planning And everyone of you, who chairs a committee, is a board member of your club or organization.or just dances on a regular basis with one or more clubs Without all of you our work would be much harder. We continue to be supported by All Join Hands , who fund many projects and activities for the IAGSDC. We are very grateful for this continued support. See you in Chicago!
