OK then , looking back to 2001 Vancouver HTQ....
The contest was run by the HTQ from the year prior, " Ucanlayme Amy " and all of her cute helpers. It was Easter time, and if my memory serves me right, the helpers were bunnies and or some sort of cute creatures. The contestants were allowed 2 minutes for any " talent " they wished to perform. I seem to remember that the contest was going along with various contestants etc. One of the contestants was named " Cher Noble " and she was lip synching to a Cher song - and then she stopped. At that point, from under a shroud on a luggage cart emerged the long lost HTQ-1993-Seattle, " Moolena ". The old gal had her saw and she began again with the ditty that she played in 1993, " Falling in Love Again ". At this point, the cute helpers were doing what had been agreed to and asking that Moolena finish and depart after 2 minutes. Well, that was not going to happen and Miss U. Amy waved them off and allowed the very entertaining Moolena to finish her performance. To those of us that were in Seattle and aware of Moolena, this was quite entertaining. Somewhat of a relief as well that Virginia was only joking when she marched into the HTQ in 1994 - DC, holding a plate of hamburger and announced that a terrible accident had occurred !
Some rather uneventful contestants came next and then I spied the winners. I was just so amused by the "Big Boned Gals and Mary Gold". Mary Gold (in her really bright eye makeup and moo-moo) sang live to the tune of the k.d. lang song, "Big Boned Gals" with her own words. The words referred to a sale at Nordstrom and the Big Boned Gals were fighting over some sale table merchandise as Mary sang out. They ripped some merchandise apart and it was pretty funny. Funny enough to send them home with that boot/crown and sash. |
